Includes unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

This CD was recorded live at The Riverside Club, Glasgow in 1999 and was originally released as "By The Riverside" by "IanIanIain" on my own Ruglen Records Label.
I had recently been asked by LINN Records to follow up the Alloway Tales CD. I let them here this. They liked it and had it remastered and re-packaged. So now I was the Ian Bruce Band! How grand? Well they were a very talented bunch. Ian Lowthian, Iain Fraser and Ian Murray. You're maybe seeing why the band was called IanIanIain? On top of the four Ian's in the band, the sound man was Ian Clelland and the man who was originally going to release it was Iain Hunter. Wow!

By the way...I'm sure LINN Records probably have this on their site for download. That's probably where you should download it. Please see

The download also includes a PDF of the Cover Booklet etc.

WHERE I SHOULD GO? Two forward, one back I’ll be no star Three forward, two back I won’t go so far One forward, three back where I started. But people still try to own me. Steps to the side Don’t do that, do this Knock me off my stride Take care who ya kiss I’m pinned to the spot and I’m spinnin’ I’m pinned to the spot and I’m spinnin’ Chorus I’m just a man I wanna know With no master plan Where I should go. ‘Cept I try very hard to hurt no one. It seems I have no way of knowing. So why should they care I can’t find my bed How I wear my hair I can’t find my head. Can’t they take me as they find me. I can’t find the road that I’m goin’ I am me It’s all I can be. I know what I want but can’t go there. Things people say Stand in my way. Pin me to this spot where I’m spinnin’ I’ll be no star I won’t go so far But people still try to own me. Don’t do that, do this Take care who ya kiss I’m pinned to the spot and I’m spinnin’ around I’m just a man With no master plan ‘Cept I try very hard to hurt no one. So why should they care How I wear my hair Can’t they take me as they find me.

PEARLS BEFORE SWINE Dear table in front of me, I wish you’d look around To the folks trying to listen but can hardly hear a sound Save your shouts and your laughter as you swill your beer. But don’t mind me up here Chorus I’m pearls before swine. I must believe or go out of my mind. Ommmmm!! It strikes me now, you don’t know me at all To you I’m interference, I’m just paper on the wall Well perhaps I could move you if you would only hear. Ah but don’t mind me up here. I’m outwardly confident but deep inside I’m shy. Deep inside I’m angry and deep inside I cry. I don’t deserve your rudeness or this salt tear. Ah but don’t mind me up here. To all you people who reached out your hands You spoke words of kindness, you seemed to understand. You looked to this front table with a sigh and a sneer Thanks from me up here.

Namenlos 03:11
NAMENLOS He bore no name He had no number He was master of the house He was loving' He was evil Respectively to man and mouse CHORUS Time for moving on Time for moving on Namenlos, Namenlos You're really gone? Cotton wool packing razor blades Like a Gurkha in the night Black magical Supernatural Chieftain of sacrificial rites. Mysterious and yet so obvious You were there in black and white You were cool You were strong I didn't think you'd lose the fight! So rest in peace my little friend No one's gonna take your place We loved you and we still do You left one hell of a big space

HOW DID YOU FEEL? How did you feel on the day I was leaving? Were you heartbroken when I went away? I’d seen you dress in the brightest of colours Like freshest spring flowers But grey on that day. Chorus. Keep yourself warm, keep yourself cosy. Treat yourself decent. Please write when you can. Here is my home but my heart is aye with you. I too will be with you as soon as I can. Trembling lips tried to smile as we parted That fragile smile only lasted a while. Driving’s not easy, and this was my secret, With tears upon tears, mile after mile. All being well, I’ll soon be beside you. Me and my rainbow, my dearest friend. Battlefield curries, brunches at Sainsbury’s, We’ll laugh till we cry this song over again.

MY MARTIN AND MY MOTORBIKE I’m done up in leather I’m all black and shiny Astride two wheels, my guitar behind me. Two out of three things that I like. My ma ma ma ma Martin and my motorbike. Uh Huh uh! Etc. Some say I’m thick between the ears Some keep sayin’,”It’ll end in tears. Why don’t he use a car.” Some wanna swap with my guitar. Well, I could be your daddy’s dad I’m a deluded old dude it’s oh so sad. Roy Rogers had his horse. This is just me with mine, of course. You’ll never know if you’ve never tried The comradeship between those who ride OOOOh! How good it feels…… On two wheels. When I’m….. When a blue blackbird is passin’ by And a black flight case points to the sky. Who could that be? Probably me!

Where I Should Go Two forward, one back Three forward, two back One forward, three back where I started. Steps to the side Knock me off my stride I’m pinned to the spot and I’m spinnin’ around Chorus I wanna know With no master plan Where I should go. It seems I have no way of knowing. I can’t find my bed I can’t find my head. I can’t find the road that I’m goin’ I am me It’s all I can be. I know what I want but can’t go there. Things people say Stand in my way. Mellow 03:28
MELLOW C G You will mellow Fm C You will mellow G Given time, you will mellow C G You will mellow Fm C My good fellow G C All whites yellow with time. Hot-headed morality You know just how this world should be. You see so red your eyes are burning me. You will mellow with time. Misplaced supremacy You have the nerve to look down on me You’re only the same as I used to be You will mellow with time.

GO HOME TO GLASGOW I know it’s a real strange thing to say But I’m very very glad you’re going away. Your eyes are tired, your mind’s already gone. This long road’s not all cruel, nor is it strictly kind. It’s hard playing songs when home plays on your mind. Chorus. Go home, home, home. Home, home, home. Go home. Go home to Glasgow home. It’s a shame to be sitting there all uneasy in an easy chair. I understand. That chair is not your own. I hope you slept so very well. You never said. Sleepin’s never easy in an unfamiliar bed. The last gig’s been and gone. Tomorrow you go home. Relax a while. Have another beer. Your head’s so full of lust and love and your little baby girl. It won’t be long till you’re back in your world.

about

Still entirely acoustic......Well. There was an electric piano but pianos are just too heavy to carry upstairs. During that spate of "Unplugged" CDs you were pretty cool to release one. I always wanted to call a CD "Unplugged As Usual". This one maybe should have been the one.
