Track Name: Nightime Cowboys
NIGHTIME COWBOYS
(Ian M. Bruce)

What I do throughout the day,
You've no need to know.
What I do to earn my pay,
You've no need to know.
We meet in the nightime.
That's when I enjoy.
Putting my day behind me
With The Nightime Cowboys.

Some folks look on in wonder.
They don't understand.
This brotherhood in country keeps us hand in hand.
We got cowboys and indians on one dance floor.
Where the arrows and bullets fly in anger no more.

We could've been fighting.
Splashing paint on the wall.
Running through the town mowing everybody down.
Stopping when the last one falls.
But we're just singin', dancin' -
Doin' nobody no harm.
The music reaches down to the beaches
And up to the rollin' hills of 'Faraway Farm'.

What I do throughout the day,
You've no need to know.
What I do to earn my pay,
You've no need to know.
We meet in the nightime.
That's when I enjoy.
Putting my day behind me
With The Nightime Cowboys.
Track Name: All Roads Lead To Home
ALL ROADS LEAD TO HOME
(Ian M. Bruce/Ian J. Walker)

Only fourteen years old
His mama passed away
The bottle saw his daddy through the day
Like fledgelings in the nest
Waiting for Father's return
Waiting for worms
Waiting for worms
Like fledgelings in the nest waiting for worms.

He fell heir to the care of sisters so young
Doing the things his daddy should have done
They snatched his youth
Blew it all away
Blew it away
His worth realised when he left one day.

And Dad said ....
"Sorry son, I'm sorry
I understand your need to roam
If the sign at the crossroad tumbles down All roads
All roads

But home shifts its place
Well out of range
Wonders why he waited so long for the change
Children of his own
Exuberant and free
Deedle - e - dee Deedle - e - dee
Spending his days with the family

He still hears
"Sorry son, I'm sorry
I understand your need to roam
If the sign at the crossroad tumbles down
All roads
All roads
All roads lead to home"

When the night comes down
There's no-one around and he's thinking
Of the grudge he- bears
And how it's wearing thin
Dawn parades - the darkness fades
"I'm gonna find my Dad
Gonna welcome the old man in.

I'm gonna say
"Sorry Dad, I'm sorry if I caused you any pain
If the sign at the crossroad tumbles down
All roads All roads
All roads lead to home"

Sister's at the door of the old family home
A tear in her eye says there's something wrong
"You're just one week too late
He's back with Mama now
Together again
Together again
Back with Mama now - together again".

Because the sign at the crossroad tumbled down
And all roads All roads
All roads led to home
Track Name: (You Have To) Believe In Love
(You Have To) BELIEVE IN LOVE)
(Ian M. Bruce/Iain J. Murray)

CHORUS
You have to believe in love
Believe and want to change
You have to live your life around love.

You gaze from your window
On another rainy day
The telephone rings
You hear your friend say
"Aint you glad that I rang?"

CHORUS

You tell me your dreams
And how they don't come true
You tell me how it seems
That life is leaving you behind

Those who never seek, they rarely find
Their counterpart of the loving kind Fools may say
I don't really mind
I Don't really mind
So look to your dreams
See that some have come true Run for your life
Don't you know it won't run to you?

CHORUS
Track Name: The Touch and The Go
THE TOUCH AND THE GO
(Ian M. Bruce/Ian J. Walker)

CHORUS
We lived through the touch and the go
With never a great deal to show
Spending was fast while earning was slow
But we laughed through the touch and the go
We loved through the touch and the go

Those were the days when the business was small
Fearing the worst should it go to the wall.
But through inclement weather we held it together.
Over dead bodies would we see it fall
Cries from the cradle utmost in our minds
Children to feed, a mortgage to find.
We'd often embrace whilst wishing for more
We were never so happy as when we were poor.

Then business increased just according to plan
We could hardly keep up with the rising demand
The thing that's so funny is both milk and honey
Turned bitter-sweet for we could not withstand
All the time spent on travel, the time spent apart
Temptation on both sides to make a new start
Love grew cold and so insecure
We were never so happy as when we were poor.

CHORUS

The kids are all grown, they're up and all gone
They took our last reason for carrying on.
Once there was love and nothing above.
Now business as usual is all we have won.
Ambitions fulfilled but still dreams remain
Dreams of the past we can never regain
Hard work and good fortune brought wealth to our door
But we were never so happy as when we were poor.

CHORUS
Track Name: Rattlers
RATTLERS
(Ian M. Bruce)

I'm proud to be in your country
America suits me fine.
I take this chance to say some thanks
You've all been very kind.
But one lady made me mad
It's about her that I now sing
She said, "How do you like our country?
Hey ain't we got everything!?"
Well I took some time to ponder
On the things that we don't have
Eventually they occurred to me
And I began to laugh..
You mean . . .

CHORUS
Rattlers, gun toting battlers
Medical bills that make you ill.
Insect grills on your window sills
Mafia!
Screaming black widow would kill ya.
Rattlers!

She'd never been to Scotland
But she as good as said
"We're club wielding, hairy, tartan clad cavemen
Who whack each other on the head"
But we got most everything we want.
Lady, you can only guess.
The latest of technology
And we got the NHS

CHORUS

So lady yes 1love your country
But I also love my own
So believe it or not
Though you've got the lot I won't mind goin' home
From

CHORUS
Track Name: When The Bough Breaks
WHEN THE BOUGH BREAKS
(Ian M. Bruce/Ian J.Walker)

CHORUS
Innocence won't see
The twisting of the tree.
Or how the trusted oak
Bent before it broke.

Running home from school
Brimmed with news to tell
But why the locked front door
And the need to ring the bell?
Seconds pass like hours
A neighbour lets her in
But how d'ya tell a child?
Where do you begin?

CHORUS

MIDDLE
No-one will ever know
How a heart can ache
Till they're left alone
When the bough breaks.

But heartaches gave her strength
To find her own way through
And from a broken bough
Another oak tree grew.

CHORUS
Track Name: Had To Find a Phone
HAD TO FIND A PHONE
(Ian M. Bruce)

Too much coincidence happenin' tonight
Something tells me "All is not right"
Everything I touch reminds me of home
Strange feelings tonight
Strange feelings tonight

CHORUS
I had to find a phone
I had to call home
If anything's happened to her
Don't think I can make it alone I had to find a phone

Running frantic.
Trying to find a phone.
Fumbling for coins as I race along.
Receiver at last shaking in my hand
Why's she taking so long?
Why's she taking so long?

CHORUS

A drowsy voice tells me
For ringing so late.
To get her out of bed.
But I had to call you up to say "I love you!"
"Love you too" she said
"Love you too" she said

CHORUS
Track Name: Jimmy Come Solo
JIMMIE COME SOLO
(Ian M. Bruce)

Quick pull in that chair
Pretend there's somebody sitting there
Here come 'Jimmy come solo'
If we don't catch his eye
He'll maybe pass by
We don't wanna hear all those lies

CHORUS
Jimmy come solo
Jimmy come alone
Jimmy go lonely
All the way home

Nothing he hasn't been
Nowhere he hasn't seen
So say 'Jimmy Come Solo'.
If you've none - he got one
If you've one - he got some.
There's no way of stopping that tongue

CHORUS

After jumping clean through a window
Jimmy killed a man with his banjo
And when all the wires and the wheels went wrong
They called on Jim to fix the robot King Kong

Quick pull in that chair
Pretend there's somebody sitting there
Here come 'Jimmy come solo'
If we don't catch his eye
He'll maybe pass by
We don't wanna hear all those lies

CHORUS
Track Name: (The Irony of) No Smoking Day '87
(The Irony of) NO SMOKING DAY '87
(Ian M. Bruce)

A cigarette flicks between his lips.
Smoke screws up his eyes
He talks from the other side of his mouth.
His cough and speech synchronise.
Tar gurgles as he laughs
Exposing yellow teeth to the back
One day he feels bad
Goes to see Doc who tells him why he's had the heart attack.

Doc says straight, "Give up the smoke
Keep on smokin1 and die"
His patient turns white, but gets to his feet
And says, "Doc I'm gonna try".

CHORUS
This fighter ain't losin' It's just cuts and bruisin'
Superficial dents don't stop this car cruising
I can stop the smokin', it just takes the choosin'
I choose to stop right now.

OoooooooH

Suddenly my subject sees
The addiction his smoking's become.
Hyponotism, acupuncture, all in vain
He even tried nicotine gum.
Days and months of panic
And years of fear
Nothing he tries makes him forget
The best way he knew to tranquilise nerves
Was lighting another cigarette

CHORUS

National No Smoking Day, March '87
Around four years after the attack
He finally smoked his last cigarette
His widow knows he's never coming back.

This fighter ain't losin' It's just cuts and bruisin'
Superficial dents don't stop this car cruising
I can stop the smokin', it just takes the choosin'
He didn't choose to stop right now.
Track Name: Butlins Girl
BUTTONS GIRL
(Ian M. Bruce)

Somewhere behind the encampment fence
Past the cold as Colditz gates
Amidst the faded razzmatazz
A redcoat impatiently waits
For a glimmer of love from one of the many
Singers who come and go
And each time they go
She clings to a tale
Of some "well known" singer, she knows.

CHORUS
Butlins girl you have a heart
That longs with every beat
For the tender loving man of your dreams
To come sweeping you off your feet.

She was last a waving silhouette
Framed by The Beachcomber's door
Though from the distance I could not see
I'd say a tear fell to the floor
And as I looked back on this lonely dreamer
I wished that her real world
Could be filled by the man
The man in the dreams
Of this beautiful Butlins girl
\
CHORUS
Track Name: Labyrinth of Chance
LABYRINTH OF CHANCE
(Ian M. Bruce)

Muster, muster, stand before me now
All you who are blessed by birth
Through me alone your future shall unfold
And its quantities of misery and mirth
Some through me shall gingerly tread
Some may run, skip or dance
Whatever way, you must take what you can
From me . . . the Labyrinth of Chance.

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, from me, the Labyrinth of Chance.

Go with open eyes through my tunnels of light
In the footsteps of those gone before
But go with caution if my abysses are dark
For it may be danger you explore
By ploughing dark some may harvest light
Dictating the sidle or prance
Or tardy adventurers who are seeking their rewards
In me . . . the Labyrinth of Chance.

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, from me, the Labyrinth of Chance.

Awaiting shortcuts?
Now don't you wait too long
My walls are tough, they rarely yield
Don't go seeking for my lucky breaks
I keep them well concealed
I can't deny I have some in store
If you sprint or you cannily advance
There are few who don't earn their quality of life
In me, ... the Labyrinth of Chance.

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, from me, the labyrinth of chance.

So enter by my front door
And a few by my side
And make of me what you will
I wish you confidence and a presence of mind
And a great ambition to fulfil
But before that last great tunnel you traverse
In retrospect I want you to glance
How many tunnels did you light on your way
Through me . . . the Labyrinth of Chance?

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, through me, The Labyrinth of Chance.
